상담 교사 추락 사건 The crash of a counselor teacher

 

『상담 교사 추락 사건』 은 제1회 소원어린이문학상 대상을 수상한 작품으로 정율리 작가의 소설이다.

상담 교사가 추락했다는 일은 언뜻 듣기만 해도 충격인데, 어린이문학상을 수상했다고 하여 읽어보게 되었다.

 

이로운 초등학교의 상담 교사이자 로봇인 모드니가 학교 점심시간 중 갑자기 쿵 하는 소리와 함께 옥상에서 바닥으로 떨어져 박살이 나면서 이야기가 시작된다.

추락 사고로 인해 다친 사람은 없어 단순 사고로 넘어가는 듯 했지만 익명 게시판에 올라온 '누군가 모드니를 밀었다' 는 글이 올라오며 범인을 찾기 위해 학교가 들썩인다.

이야기는 희주, 시연, 민아 세 친구의 이야기를 중심으로 전개된다.

희주는 아동학대를 서슴없이 하는 통제형 엄마가 있는 지옥 같은 집에서 벗어나고 싶어하고, 시연이는 아버지의 빚으로 인해 위장이혼을 한 부모님의 이야기를 숨겨야 해서 조용히 학교생활을 해야 했다. 민아의 어머니는 사고로 일찍 돌아가셔서 새아빠와 둘이 사이좋게 지내고 있지만, 아빠의 친척들이 민아와 아빠를 떨어뜨려놓으려고 해서 불안해한다.

셋은 각자의 비밀을 품고 있다가 놀이공원으로 체험학습을 간 날, 관람차에서 서로의 소원을 빌며 각자의 비밀을 털어놓게 된다.

비밀을 털어놓음으로 인해서 더 친해질 줄 알았지만, 그 후 상담 교사 모드니가 희주를 호출하며 상담을 하게 되었고 희주는 갑자기 상담을 하게 된 이유로 친구들의 배신을 의심한다.

고학년 여학생 간 실제로 있을 법한 일을 소재로 한 이야기라 무척 흡인력이 있다. 더불어 상담 교사가 로봇이라는 SF적 설정이 있어서, '학교에 진짜 로봇으로 된 상담 교사가 오면 어떤 일이 일어날까?' 상상하게 되는 매력이 있다. 이야기 속에서는 상담 교사가 로봇이기 때문에 학생들의 비밀이 절대적으로 지켜지고 학생들의 상태를 신체 데이터 등으로 객관적으로 파악할 수 있어서 몹시 흥미로웠다.

이야기가 진행되면서 진범의 심리도 묘사되어 함께 두근거리고, 수리가 완료 된 모드니가 과연 실제 범인을 털어놓을 것인지도 관전 포인트라서 순식간에 읽어버렸다. 어린이들의 책에서 이런 스릴러를 본다는 것이 즐거웠다. 세상에 이런 환경에 놓인 친구들이 있구나, 상담 교사와는 이런 대화를 하는 구나, 선생님이 로봇이라면 어떨까, 내 친구가 아동학대를 당하고 있다는 걸 알면 어떻게 될까 등 생각해보고 느낌표를 띄울 만한 내용들이 골고루 들어 있다. 실제 고학년 아이들과 한 챕터씩 읽어가면 더욱 재밌게 읽을 수 있을 것 같다.

The fact that the counselor fell is shocking to children at first glance, but I read it because it won the Children's Literature Award.

 

The story begins when Modni, a counseling teacher and robot at "Erowoon Elementary School," suddenly falls from the rooftop to the floor with a thud during school lunch and is smashed.

No one was injured in the crash, so it seemed to be a simple accident, but the school was excited to find the culprit as an anonymous bulletin board posted, "Someone pushed Modni."

 

The story revolves around the stories of three friends, Hee-joo, Si-yeon, and Mina.

Hee-joo wants to get out of a hellish house with a controlled mother who does not hesitate to abuse children, and Si-yeon had to quietly live in school because she had to hide the story of her parents who got divorced in disguise due to her father's debt. Min-ah's mother died early in the accident, so she and her stepfather are getting along well, but she is anxious because her father's relatives are trying to keep Min-ah and her father apart.

The three have their own secrets, and on the day they go on an experiential study trip to the amusement park, they make each other's wishes in the Ferris wheel and reveal their secrets.

They thought they would get closer by confiding in the secret, but after that, counseling teacher Modni called Hee-joo for counseling, and Hee-joo suspects the betrayal of her friends because of the sudden consultation.

 

The story is very compelling because it deals with something that could really happen among senior girls in school.

In addition, there is a SF setting that the counseling teacher is a robot, so it is attractive to imagine, "What will happen when a real robot counseling teacher comes to school?"

​In the story, because the counseling teacher is a robot, it was very interesting to be able to keep students' secrets absolutely and objectively grasp students' conditions with physical data.

 

As the story progressed, the psychology of the true criminal was also described, making my heart pound together, and I read it in an instant because it was a point to see if Modni, who was repaired, would reveal the actual criminal.

It was enjoyable to see a thriller like this in a children's book. It made me think, “There really are kids living in such situations,” “So this is the kind of conversation students have with a counselor,” “What if a teacher were a robot?” and “What would happen if I found out my friend was being abused?” The book is filled with thought-provoking and eye-opening moments like these. I think I can enjoy reading it more if I read a chapter by chapter in the classroom with actual senior students.
